NEW YORK (AP) -- On this fifth anniversary of the terror attacks, a stark reminder of just how easy it is to get unnerved in New York City.
Penn Station was evacuated for a time this morning because of a suspicious package. Authorities say it turned out to be a duffel bag full of trash, but it was enough to clear out the station, which is home to Amtrak, two commuter lines and several subways.
One rider took it in stride, saying he wasn't worried given the large number of police and National Guard troops at Penn Station.
Across town, there was also heavier than normal security at historic Grand Central Terminal, which serves commuters from the northern suburbs.
Meanwhile, in Washington, police are conducting security sweeps on the Metrorail subway today.
