PENTAGON (AP) -- In a somber observance of Nine-Eleven losses at the Pentagon, Vice President Cheney says the U-S has "no intention of ignoring or appeasing history's latest gang of fanatics."
And he says terrorists are "trying to murder their way to power."
While echoing recent counter-terrorism remarks by President Bush and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, the vice president also paid tribute to members of the armed services.
He says the "war on terror has placed hard duties on our military." And he says service personnel "know better than most that much hard work and sacrifice" is ahead.
Cheney joined Rumsfeld and a crowd of family members and visitors marking a moment of silence at 9:37 -- the exact time when American Flight 77 hit the Pentagon and killed 184 people.
